So, what's the difference between digital and offset printing? Printing is printing, right? Not exactly... Let's take a look at these two printing methods, their differences and where it makes sense to choose one over the other for your next print project...

Offset or Lithographic Printing

Lithographic Printing
Offset or lithographic printing technology uses plates, usually made from aluminium, which are used to transfer an image onto a rubber "blanket". The image is then rolled onto a sheet of paper. It's called offset because the ink is not transferred directly onto the paper. Offset printing is the best choice when larger quantities are needed. It provides accurate colour reproduction and crisp, clean professional looking printing.

This method is the most suitable option if;
  • you require more than 1,000 copies
  • you wish to avail of a wide range of paper, inks and finishes

Digital Printing

Digital printing is a modern method of printing that involves printing an image directly from a computer onto paper. It is essentially like printing from a very big and powerful laser printer. Because this method does not require printing an image onto a number of plates before being transferred onto paper it is more cost effective to complete, making it ideal for shorter print runs, which is ideal for smaller businesses and individuals.

Another benefit of digital printing is its variable data capability. When each piece needs a unique code, name or address or number, digital printing is the only way to go. Offset printing cannot accommodate this need.

At Graph Print we have the most up to date digital printing presses to carry out all of these functions.

This method is the most suitable option if;
  • you require up to 1,000 copies
  • you need items at short notice

  • you require large graphic displays
  • you want to attract attention with vibrant graphics

Variable Data Printing

Variable Data Printing

Our Variable Data Printing (VDP) service enables you to completely personalise a single run bulk mail shot. You can tailor the message they receive depending on where they are in your sales cycle, reducing the likelihood that your mailshot is treated as junk mail and allowing you to develop and nurture a stronger relationship with your customers.

VDP also enables you to do a single print run giving a large audience the same message and to customise sections of content for A/B testing based on offers, geographical locations or demographics.

The implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) in May 2018 has resulted in a higher level of restriction on acquiring mailing lists for running email marketing campaigns. This has turned some business owners back to sending out physical mailshots to business addresses. The introduction of Eircodes in 2015 means that Irish businesses now have access to a higher level of accuracy on addresses which should result in better delivery and open rates on physical mailings than before.

Contact our sales team today to see how you can use VDP to grow your business.
