The post codes are unique 7 character codes for each address which are called EirCodes. They will have a 3 digital routing key and a 4 digit unique identifier like the sample below. The EirCode website says that “The Eircodes are much more than just a postcode. It is a smart location code for all Irish addresses. It will help the public, businesses and public bodies to locate every individual address in the State. Eircodes will bring many benefits to the daily lives of people, householders and businesses. Currently, around 35% of addresses – mainly in rural areas – do not have a unique name or number in their address. With Eircodes, delivery of services and goods will be much easier and quicker to these addresses.” Sounds great doesn’t it! So what will this mean for Irish businesses?
